One of the powerful phrases of leadership, the saying "if you can't lead yourself, you can't lead a team" (Faz Fazal, 2017) encapsulates a profound truth that is invaluable for both employees and managers.
To excel as a leader, one must first master self-leadership. This is due to my personal testing. This also involves self-discipline, self-awareness, and the ability to set a positive example. It is not easy to stay focused on one solid path, but it is the most effective key in the leading realm. To be able to achieve this self-awareness requires some involvement such as community and environment to help create an atmosphere of focus. For employees, understanding this principle means recognizing the importance of personal accountability, time management, and maintaining a strong work ethic within the organization.
When you lead yourself effectively, you become an asset to your team, fostering an environment of trust and cooperation. Managers, on the other hand, must internalize the concept of self-leadership to inspire their teams. By exhibiting qualities like reliability, emotional intelligence, and integrity, they set the standard for their employees. This not only boosts team morale but also creates a culture of mutual respect and shared purpose, resulting in greater workplace success. In essence, mastering self-leadership is the foundation for effective leadership at all levels of an organization.
